WIND WAGONS

 

Objectives

  1. Construct a car-like device that will travel the farthest distance when powered by the wind.
  2. Write a paper that describes your wind wagon.

 

 

Materials

Plastic bags, pager bags, hangers, cardboard, waxed cardboard, plastic beads, Styrofoam, toothpicks, Q-Tips, tape, glue, chopsticks, tissue paper rolls, compact discs, etc……

*** YOU WILL RECEIVE A 0 IF YOU USE ANY PREMADE CAR PARTS OR WHEELS OFF TOYS!!!!!

 

Grading

1. Points will be awarded for car construction based on the following distances:

 

.1- 1 meter     70 points (Your car must move)

1-2 meters     75 points

2-3 meters     80 points

3-4 meters     85 points       

4-5 meters     90 points

5-6 meters     95 points

6-7 meters     100 points

7+                    105 points

 

  1. The other points for the project will come from a paper that will be written describing your perfect wind wagon.  In order to receive full points you will need to address each of the following concepts and describe how you utilized it in your car.  This paper will be turned in with the Windwagon.  These are easy points and you can get them ALL by simply addressing each concept.

A. mass of the wagon- What did you use and why?                                            10 points

B. How is friction used or avoided in your wagon?                                         10 points

C. What did you use to increase or assist with the wind catching ability?10 points

D. What did you do to center or properly balance the car?                            10 points

E. How did you do to assure that the car goes straight?                               10 points

F. Describe 2 simple machines that you used in your car.                             10 points

 

TOTAL POINTS 160

 

Project is due on Friday, September 7 and will not be accepted late for any reason!!!!!
